Security & Identity

What the 1password connector can do

1password stores credentials and secrets in vaults that teams can share under controlled access. In type.com, a security or engineering Space can ask Claude to look up an item in a vault, add a new one after a service signs up, or confirm which vaults a connection has access to, without anyone pasting a password into a thread.

One connection, many Spaces

Connect 1password once, then decide which Spaces can use it in threads, skills, automations, and coding work.

What teams do with 1password in type.com

FAQ

Questions people ask before connecting 1password

Can Claude manage 1password vault items?

Yes. With a 1password connection shared to your Space, ask Claude in a thread to create, find, or remove vault items. Secrets stay in the connection and are never typed into a prompt.

How does type.com authenticate with 1password?

1password uses an API key tied to a service account. An admin sets this up once on the connection and picks which Spaces are allowed to use it.

Who can access our 1password vaults through type.com?

Only members of a Space the 1password connection has been shared with can ask the agent to read or change vault items, so access stays limited to the right team.

Is this the same as a 1password MCP server?

Not exactly. type.com uses connectors and connections to give selected Spaces access to approved app tools and data. Some connectors use hosted MCP, while others use OAuth, API keys, service accounts, or custom APIs.
